Giovanni Crisafulli interprets the world of the Bühlmann Decompression 02
How do you photograph a watch whose story begins with something invisible?
Pressure cannot be seen. Neither can decompression, concentration or the moment in which preparation becomes instinct. Yet all of them shape the experience of diving and all of them belong to the world of the Bühlmann Decompression 02.
This was the starting point for a photographic project created by Giovanni Crisafulli, photographer, diver, official Mares photographer and Bühlmann Watches ambassador.
Rather than producing a conventional series of product photographs, Giovanni approached the Decompression 02 through the human experience surrounding it. The result is a sequence of four images built around one female figure, photographed as she moves between darkness, equipment, water and light.
The watch remains present throughout the series, but it is never isolated from the person wearing it. It becomes part of her preparation, her character and her relationship with the underwater world.

1. Emerging from Darkness
The first photograph is built around the idea of revelation.
The female figure is almost entirely absorbed by darkness, defined only by subtle blue and violet lines of light that trace the contours of her face and body. What remains hidden is just as important as what is revealed.
Within this suspended atmosphere, the turquoise dial of the Bühlmann Decompression 02 becomes one of the few elements that can be read with complete clarity. The viewer's eye is naturally drawn towards the wrist, without the need to isolate the watch from the portrait.
The composition plays on the delicate balance between mystery and precision. Light does not illuminate everything; it chooses what deserves attention. The result is an elegant and enigmatic image in which the watch appears to emerge from the darkness, much like clarity emerging from uncertainty.

The orange background contrasts dramatically with the black diving suit and the cool tones of both the fins and the turquoise dial, creating a visual dialogue between warmth and depth.
This photograph brings together two identities that define the Bühlmann project: contemporary elegance and authentic diving heritage.
