To mark the 50th anniversary of the European Underwater and Baromedical Society, EUBS and Bühlmann are proud to introduce the Albert Bühlmann Prize, recognising outstanding scientific contributions to the fields of diving and hyperbaric medicine.
The prize carries the name of Prof. Albert A. Bühlmann, whose pioneering research into decompression and human physiology under pressure helped transform the safety of diving and whose work continues to influence diving practice around the world today.
There is a natural connection between EUBS and Bühlmann. Both are built around the same fundamental mission: understanding pressure to make people safer.
For Albert A. Bühlmann, research was never an end in itself. His work moved continuously between the laboratory, the pressure chamber and real-world diving. Scientific knowledge had to be tested, understood, shared and ultimately made useful to people.
That spirit is at the heart of the Albert A. Bühlmann Prize.
Presented for the first time during EUBS50, taking place from 14–17 September 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, the Albert A. Bühlmann Prize will honour scientific work that combines excellence with relevance and contributes meaningfully to the continued advancement of diving and hyperbaric medicine.
